UAE compliance guide
What is KYC in banking?
What KYC means for banks, the steps from identity to risk rating, and how UAE banks onboard retail and corporate customers digitally.
Short answer
KYC in banking is the process a bank uses to identify and verify a customer, understand the purpose of the account, screen against sanctions and PEP lists, rate the risk and keep monitoring the relationship. In the UAE, banks are supervised by the CBUAE and must complete these checks before and during the relationship.

What are the steps?
Collect identity documents, verify them, match the customer's face with liveness, screen, assess risk, apply enhanced due diligence for higher risk, then monitor and refresh periodically.
Corporate accounts
For companies, banks run KYB: verify the entity, its trade license, directors and ultimate beneficial owners.
